Systems Integration Solution Supports Data Transformation to and from HL7 for the NIH System
The eiConsole supports data transformation to and from the HL7 standard facilitating information exchange as dictated by the NIH (National Institute of Health). The NIH has embarked on an ambitious initiative to aggregate disparate sources of information. In this case, the goal is to create a clinical research warehouse at the NIH Clinical Center (NIH CC). The system “is envisioned to function as the preferred information system to analyze the NIH clinical and preclinical data related to the development of new biomedical products and methods of diseases diagnosis, treatment, and control”.
The system underlying this initiative is the Biomedical Translational Information System (BTRIS), This system is responsible for aggregating information including:
- Patient Demographic Data
- Vital Signs
- Lab Test Results
- Treatments
- Diagnostic
- Pharmacy
- Medical History
- Radiology / Imaging
Participating medical research facilities must provide information in an HL7 data format. PilotFish’s eiConsole explicitly supports data transformation to and from the HL7 standard using a point, click, drag & drop visual interface. Two powerful components, the Data Mapper and the File Specification Editor enable the enable the transformation of the data format output from the source you select into the HL7 standard format. Source and your end target format readers are included with the eiConsole. In addition to the drag & drop mapping users have a “computationally complete” palette of XSLT Structures. These include Functions, and custom “macros” to speed the development of high-quality transformations and are all W3C compliant as well.
